Edwardian Bride

June is for brides.  This is Eleanor Clay Ford on her wedding day in 1916.  Just look at the details.  The pearls and beading on the bodice with a tiny sprig of flowers.  The simple pearl necklace.  And the most incredible headpiece I have ever seen.  Just beautiful!

June Bride, 1935

Molyneux designed this stunning silk crepe bridal gown in 1935.  The long veil is of the same fabric.  Sculpted wax flowers adorn the front of the neckline and cap.

Weekend Eye Candy, June Bride 1958

Carven designed this drop waisted tea length wedding gown in 1958.  The full length mantilla veil makes it more formal for the church.

Weekend Eye Candy - Jacques Fath, 1954

Each year in June, I devote my Weekend Eye Candy posts to brides.  Today's wedding gown was designed by Jacques Fath in 1954.  Flat in the front and very full in the back, I really like the technique where the couturier has used a curving seam in the center of the skirt in back, where even more fullness is gathered into the train.

1950s Wedding Gown Pattern and a Beautiful Bride

Sometimes the serendipity of life amazes me.  Yesterday on Facebook, I posted a picture of this late 1950s wedding gown pattern that I listed for sale in my SewHallie Esty shop.  Within minutes, Couture Allure fan Shauntelle responded that she had used the exact same vintage pattern when she had her wedding gown made 9 years ago.

And here is the lovely Shauntelle on the day of her wedding wearing her gown made from the vintage 50s Butterick pattern.

Shauntelle tells me her entire wedding was vintage inspired and she and her new husband held the reception at a bowling alley!

I love that scalloped neckline.  Shauntelle, you are beautiful!  Thank you for sharing your photos with us!

Weekend Eye Candy - Mme. Gres, 1962

Our final June bride for this year wears a wedding gown by Mme. Gres from 1962.  I love the idea of a hat instead of a bridal headpiece.  Do you?

Weekend Eye Candy - Pierre Balmain, 1955

Today's June bride wears a stunning gown by Pierre Balmain from 1955.  White satin is embroidered and beaded with gorgeous lilies on long stems.

Weekend Eye Candy - Lanvin, 1947

June bride #3 is wearing a silk faille wedding gown by Jeanne Lanvin from 1947.  Look closely.  That faille is woven with polka dots!!!!!!!

Weekend Eye Candy - Molyneux Wedding Gown, 1936

The second of our June brides this year wears a pleated crepe gown by Molyneux from 1936.

Another Side of Nina Ricci

Lest you think after yesterday's post that Nina Ricci only excelled at suits, here is a Ricci draped silk jersey wedding gown from 1957.
