Weekend Eye Candy - Pauline Trigere, 1973

 My post about Pauline Trigere yesterday brought up this image of a Trigere gown from the Fall of 1973.  Memories!

I sold the identical gown several years ago on my Couture Allure site.  It was a stunner!

Madeleine de Rauch Evening Gown - 1955

Pale blue satin with a wide gray satin sash at the waist.  Blouson bodice over a full length buttoned skirt.  Long sleeves and a wide, wide neckline.  Gown by Madeleine de Rauch, Fall/Winter Couture 1955.  Earrings by Arpad add just the right amount of zing.

Eva Marie Saint, 1954

Richard Avedon shot this photo of Eva Marie Saint in 1954, just before the release of the film On the Waterfront.  Her performance as Edie Doyle was her debut on the big screen and garnered her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress that year.  Here's one of her most memorable scenes from the film.

Norman Norell - 1967

Had you asked, I never would have guessed this maxi coat, pants and top set was by Norman Norell, but some of the best designers surprise me over and over.  If you look closely, you can tell this set was made by a master.  Look how the design is matched precisely.  The white stripes match both horizontally and vertically from the coat to the pants.  Even the sleeves are perfectly matched and the opening edges of the coat split the design perfectly in half.  That is not easy to do and takes skill from the designer, the pattern maker, the fabric cutter and the seamstress.  And doesn't Benedetta Barzini do this set justice?

Suzy Parker Wearing Sophie of Saks

From 1958, the gorgeous Suzy Parker wearing a made-to-order ensemble by Sophie of Saks.  Asian style black silk surah is jacquard woven with golden brown flowers and fashioned into a sheath dress with a draped skirt.  The floral clusters in the fabric are cut out and appliqued onto a black cashmere sweater to match.  Here, the cardigan is buttoned up over the dress, but you could also just drape it casually over your shoulders.
